PALACE AUDIENCE

Poem and Image by Terry Wright

The commoners
hold a ransom letter. The shogun
works for the NEA. Funding
becomes more like criticism and the audience
hears you yell
fire. Simplify your life
said Thoreau in the woods alone.
No one came to see him
as wanting an iPad or needing a stay
of execution.

Author's Note: “Palace Audience” is from a series called “Google Poems.”  The art images are made first, and the poems are collaged from Google search strings of the poems' titles.
